Position:Home>Visual Arts> I'm an artist and I'm having problems....?

Question:with creativity. I can draw pretty good if i do say so myself. My friends think so too. But the problem is, I can never come up with something COOL to draw. Like, people always draw like angels or emo picture that is cool or like some romantic crap that is touching.... I just can't come up with any ideas for what to draw. Does that mean I'm never going to be a really good artist?

just because you can't come up with ideas doesn't make you any less of an artist... . try drawing from real life..... still lifes or copy drawing from the interent to get experience or just start thinking.... if you really want to be a famous artist you could work on custom project where people tell you what they want and you draw it for them... that way you don't have to think of ur own composition. Having ideas is really hard just hang in there...

try hiding small pictures inside a larger one. try drawing a pix that looks like something else. look for shapes in everything and think about how to draw what you see. Just practice your craft and it will become easier!

Don't get discouraged! Everyone is inspired by something. Look at the world around you. Here's some trippy ways to come up with some ideas that are all your own, that you might not otherwise tap into:

1.turn the t.v. to a station with just static and stare at it until you start to see shapes and things moving around in the static (it doesn't take long)

2. Look for shapes and scenes in cloud formations

3. look for stuff in random patterns like in the grain of wood on doors and wall panels, or in the random pattern of texture on white walls in the house.

4. color a piece of paper in with pencil, take a small piece of paper and pencil it heavily. Put the small piece face down on the big piece and smear it all in togther to make a nice blended background. Come back with an eraser and start doodling. Earasing the black bacground makes some wild lighting effects. Let the picture kind of start to form itself. You might make a few marks and thing "hey...that kind of looks like..." and just run with it. Some of the best pieces I have done, I had no idea what it was going to be when I started...it just took form and I molded it along like clay.

Good luck!!!!

ok..this may sound cheesy....put on your head phones with whatever you favorite music is, not real loud. Now close your eyes...and listen.... just listen...what do you see, what pictures does that music form in your mind..Just take what you see...and try putting it on paper....or maybe play with it a little bit. See what you end up with. Done it myself a few time....kinda turned out neat.

Im also an artist. i had that question too before but i discover that i if cant come up with some ideas just draw with your hands without thinking so much what to draw. .. got it? because sometimes we think that others ideas are better than ourself so instead drawing what our imagination want to we keep thinking what idea will top others.. ull find out that some of your work that you seem that is not too good for you will greatly appreciated by others.. hope this helps

no all good artists start have to somewhere, try something obscure. im at uni doing fine art, free your self up try wrong handed, under the table, look at negative space.

keep a small notebook with you whenever you can. if you see something cool write it down. if you see anyhting inspiring, write it down. go to museums! look in a garbage can! copy from a master like Da Vinci. ad your own thing to it! look in art books! look in the mirror!

This is just me, but I draw photographs of people. I have come to the point where I can draw them to the point where they do not look much like a drawing anymore. I'm not that bad for a 14 year old! So, you could always draw photos. Or, you could draw things that you see around you, like people, nature, etc. Another thing, if you know of any good stories or whatever, you could draw scenes from them. You almost never run out of ideas when you do that! I do that sometimes. It's fun. I don't think that just because you have trouble finding good ideas, you can't become a good artist, so don't worry.

Ravelinsky

Draw YOUR feelings. Don't worry about what other do, you are you, illustrate YOU. If you like flowers, animals, cars, dolls, garden tools, baking dishes, add your touch... Don't worry about impressing others... do it for you.
