Pretty much, yeah, you can't. There are ways to attempt it, but basically it's interpolation, which means the computer is guessing at the missing information.

There may be some high-end forensic tools out there that use heavy duty computing power to make good attempts at this, but the average consumer is not going to have access to these nor be able to afford them.

But yeah, the CSI stuff is fun, and we all wish we could do that! (I watch CSI, haven't watch CSI Miami much.)

Pictures can be made a little clearer, but most of the TV shows are full of crap. When a picture is taken, there is no way to find the missing data; all you have is what is in front of you. The computer can guess at what's missing, but I seriously doubt anything can get quite THAT clear.

yes, that is true you can't make a blurry picture clear.

Yes it is true. CSI is a joke.

Making a blurry picture un-blurry is like trying to un-pickle a pickle - not happening.

How a subject is photographed is pretty much it. You can do things to enchance and bling, but your core, blurry, photograph will remain so.
Yeah I find some of that stuff done on CSI fascinating too, but I'll bet the REAL Miami office is wishing for that stuff too--lol!

If you could simply go into a program and magically make any blurry photo clear, why would there even be a need to focus and all the cost and expense of trying to make camaras and lenses that achieve good focus?

It all still comes down to always doing your best to create a good photo in the camera, not trying to rely on a computer to do it for you... because in many, many cases... it cannot.
