Position:Home>Visual Arts> Best Graphics Tablet for Me?

Question:I have asked about graphics tablets before, but I didn't really get the answer I was looking for. I have been looking at the Wacom Bamboo Fun (small) for a while now. I was wondering if you think it is the best thing for me to buy. I am only willing to spend $100, and I like the fact that it comes with programs.

I am a beginning artist, and I am looking into learning how to draw anime/chibi. I also want to make comics. I dont have that much experience, but I really want to start. I am almost 14.

Also, I would like to know if you know of any good drawing/graphics programs that you can download online for free? Also, if you know of any good demonstration videos about this tablet, or the tablet you think I should get, that would be great. Thanks!

Wacom is well worth the money. If you are looking for a starter tablet go for the Bamboo. It's a good little tablet for the price you pay. I would not recommend other brands I have tried Adesso and had nothing but problems with it, though you can get them for cheaper. A 6x8 Bamboo should well be within your price range.

As far as convincing your parents, that's a tough one, it is becoming more of a necessity to be able to handle a tablet as many design houses are using them now.

As digital is becoming more and more accepted it is worth knowing how to use a tablet. Especially if you want to pursue a career in art or design.

Can't tell you much about free software I use the Adobe Design package. You can try Gimp, which is similar to Photoshop and I believe it's free. If you get the Bamboo I believe it comes with Corel Painter Essentials which isn't a bad program, just takes some getting used too.

Watcom, I should have invested in one. Report It

  • Well, I'm a professional artist, and most firms (graphic design businesses) actually do use the Wacom system. Even if it's small it's a great place to start. I started out drawing anime when I was younger and it eventually expanded. Don't forget to study up on your anatomy of the human body. (helps loads when trying to get your characters to look right and not lopsided =P) As far as free programs go, I'm not sure where you might get them though I do know that Wacom comes with Photoshop Elements (at least last time I checked) That's a personal favorite of mine.
Also check out "How to Draw Anime" and the like. They carry the book series at most big bookstore chains. I'd suggest starting out by hand before you try your hand at the computer. Dunno if my answer will help, but I hope it does.

Tell them that all graphic artists have to learn to use a tablet and photoshop eventually and that you'll be ahead of everyone else in college ^.^

Just get one that you can afford. That's what I did. They all pretty much do the same thing anyways. . .the programs coming with it are a fantastic bonus!
