Question:What would it explain and why would you choose that particular subject?

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: What would it explain and why would you choose that particular subject?

I would probably write a tutorial on how a user should select a camera to suit the needs and objectives that they can define, then I would supplement it with one on basic functions of different types of equipment (lenses, flash/lighting, filters, etc.

I would choose these topics because I sold cameras for many years in the B.D. (Before Digital) era and one of the most difficult problems that people encountered was figuring out which camera was appropriate. I was sometimes shocked by how people wasted their money buying the "best" and then never used the capabilities they paid for or bought a specific camera because their friend got great pictures with it and never considered the type of photography their friend did. (The best still life camera is usually not ideal for shooting horse races, etc.)

I am also surprised by the lack of alternatives that many "knowledgable" users provide here on YA!!! They seem to be unaware of any merits to choices other than the ones that they themselves have made. And the answers that are given often don't even address the basic question asked, or worse, deride someones choice or recommendation without explanation.

Thank you for selecting my answer as best. Report It

  • I have actually been thinking of getting into photography, so for me to write an article about it would more entertaining than informative. But, I'm guessing that the same systematic approach toward technology related hardware and software can be applied to the photography business as well. I would begin with the basics. Why someone was interested in photography and what they can expect to get out of it and the benefits of it while providing a brief explanation of the various styles, disciplines, and techniques used in modern photography. Then there must be a defining field of expertise in photography that will determine the type of equipment that will be needed and what accessories may come in handy. This sort of thing would be great fun to write about for and individual interested in photography. Statistics and fact sheets, maybe some comparison charts on some of the more popular brands of cameras. The sky is the limit with that. Some brief history of photography might be fun too. Then you get down to the facts. What's the difference between digital vs. other photography methods. I would list advantages and disadvantages of both. I would try to provide an overview of where the photography field is in terms of a hobby vs. taking snapshots for a living. Then of course, you give the readers what they want. Tips, tricks, and hints. Everyone likes to read about fun things to do with their area of interest. I would start a little web application dedicated to this. The tip of the day, and make it easy for visitors to write in their suggestions and hints. I'm sure that the photography industry is vast enough and has enough depth that it's one of those topics that one could write about for the rest of their lives and never run out of content. I would be surprised if digital photography could be summed up in a single article. It would certainly take a very talented author.

I have one. I set up a "beginners class" docuemnt. If you want to, I can send you a copy of it for you to review. Just email me.
