Why do all the girls who ask "Am I pretty or "Am I hot" do stupid

I think the girls are merely getting their lips into shape so that they can eventually perform some useful function.

it's the trendy new "puckered" look. Sometimes it's tugged to one side. Yes, No, it depends who you are

Some of them look positively stupid, especially when they do the lip thing with a long arm stretched out so it gets huge in the foreground and two fingers on the other hand sticking up in a V.

I guess they think they are cool or sexy but it makes them look like jackasses.

That's an exaggeration. Certainly others who have asked that question did not assume the pose.
However, in recent months when I saw the pictures linked in questions like that, I have seen the trend. Especially in the younger girls.
It doesn't make them stupid. It just makes them seem as if they're likely to follow trends, although they might not have known it was a trend, and decided at the time to make the kissy face so as to appear more playful, and perhaps, more physically appealing.
Generally when I see it, the girls become less attractive to me. But maybe that's only for those who don't look like they'd be smiling. I don't think the girls who do the lip thing should be resented.

That's actually a good question because my 15 year old does this lip thing. I asked about it and still have gotten no reply. When I was 15 I don't recall doing anything with my lips.

Yes they do. Its not that they really think it makes their lips look good, its the way flexing the face muscles to make that face highlights check bones and sometimes the eyes. That is the same reason for that 'im holding my camera as far up with my hand as I possibly can from an angle look'. That combined with the fact that it is different than the every day portraits you would have taken in a studio, you know the nice family pics with a pretty smile and best dressed sunday go to meetin clothes.

Yes, we were. Teens follow whatever the crowd is doing, not just stereotypically, but in reality. There are always exceptions, ofcourse, but yeah, follow of the masses. Even if you the styles you are following are not the popular ones, 99% are still following a style of the masses. Its human nature and nature of American teenagers.

Yes, most of us were that stupid and many of us still are - I just gave up on asking myself the 'am I pretty' thing long ago and don't bother with a mirror anymore, unless it's in a camera of course.

My brother's fiance when she was taking poses of herself at the day of their engagement,she would push her lips forward and that made her look like a duck lol

It does look stupid.

Yeah I'm sure we were all dippy teenagers at one time, why they display their pic for ALL to see is beyond me

well the old people always said women are only for bad the rest.....some Syd women have long hair and short brim well some man still believe on this today I'm not; I'm a man and I love women I think every one is beautifully in their own way and let's face we man can not live without a women unless they are gays yes all women love to fill beautiful it is natural look like stupid but you women all acting and like to here and get compliment from others men we are different

Well, the question on whether or not one is pretty is an indicator of a lack of self-worth.

i think they are trying to look like the "bratz" which seems to be all the rage with the little girls these days...(or it was for a while, anyway).
i don't think they are any to bright posting those pics with that question in the first place. and i think they'd not post them if they knew how many old men with hairy backs wearing boxershorts and wifebeaters and drinking budwiser would look at them they'd deffinetly not post them.
y'know, i think it may just be a woman thing with the lips... my old beer guzzling drunken hateful grandmother on my father's side had mcdonnald's arches for eyebrows and red lips that were all puckered up for her portraits all her life, and that was back in the 40s and 50s when she was having her photographs done, i think she was trying to look like a pin up. (she'd have done better to loose the eyebrows and beer, the beer killed her finally and no one was sad).

oh i know!! i think it looks annoying and fake.
maybe one picture like that is okay but i have a friend who is CONSTANTLY taking pictures of herself and then puts her favorites on myspace (and she adds new ones everyday) and i swear, in everyone, her lips are puckered out like that! and its really quite annoying. its like they are tryin to hard.

because they are young and immature. they are teenagers, and teenagers...are...well they're teenagers and by nature they do stupid things.
