Position:Home>Visual Arts> Critiques for this drawing?

Question:I did this during school, so I didn't really work that hard on it.
I know it's on lined paper, I didn't have any white paper.
Any suggestions on how to maybe shade better? Or Add something in background?
I hold my pencil weird, I know.

This picture was drawn while I was looking at the hand I was drawing with. Left hand ^_^
I'm 15, if it matters at all.
Thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated =]

Well done, but in the future? Use blank pages.
Lined foolscap tends to take away from your work. It shows a lack of respect for your work.
You have a raw talent there, but if you pursue this for the rest of your life as I have? Then expect to be learning about your craft until the day you die.
My advice for now is to go after the basics like it was food for your soul. Learn the colours, the perspectives, composition and graphics. Learn your tools.
Practice your talent. But be careful, because practice does not make perfect ... Okay? ... Practice makes permanent!!
So if you are going to practice then practice with guidance. Otherwise you could form poor habits in your talent that are permanent.
Guidance could be a book on artist's anatomy, or linear perspectives, or a beginners guide to colour and it's mixing, even your high school art teacher.
All the best to you, I do hope you cultivate your talent for the rest of your life.

something about the thumb doesn't look right, but overall good job!

Hey! A fellow deviant! 8D -waves-

Well, I don't really notice anything funny. This is actually very good for a 15 year old ( I'm 15, too, but I only draw anime... ^__^' )

Overall, I really like this! The pencil could use a little more shading, if you're going for a realistic look, but nonetheless, great job! <3

Great!
You show some really good talent.
The more you draw, the more you will improve, especially looking at this pic you have quite a good eye.
I especially love hands, mens hands are very appealing to draw, for me they all tell a tale.
Working hands are the most interesting.

I could critique the drawing but you need to sit back and look at the subject yourself first and note any improvements you may notice.
Don't ever stop drawing :)))

DONT SHADE WITH YOUR FINGERS!! it looks so much more realistic if you just take your time and shade slowly. Watch your angles on the hand, some seem to sharp and the side of your hand seems a little too flat. Excellent shading (despite the smudging) though, you really have an excellent handle on things. In general, work on your observational drawing skills, that comes with practice! Very good though, and make sure to throw all preconcieved notions of the hand away before you start to draw, it looks more realistic.

don't smudge it, and please please please don't outline it with dark marks! You hand does not have dark marks around the edges. You create a line by having two different values (dark and light) touch each other.
