digital slr cameras. If ur just starting a good camera would be a nikon d80 and when u get money the nikon d300, which is the top for slr cameras.

i htink they use like 400$ ones.nikon mostly.

I photograph small doings (weddings, birthdays, gatherings) I have a Minolta 35 mm.

There is a wide range of Digital SLR cameras available. Depending on what kind of photography and your budget, they can run anywhere from around $500 to over $2k.
Some entry level models would be the Canon EOS 30D or 40D, or Nikon D80. Using a Digital SLR lets you use multiple lenses to suit your shooting (ex: zooming in on wildlife, or maybe portraits).
A good site to look around for camera reviews might be http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

There you can get an idea of prices, and reviews of what people use them for.
Good Luck

Professionals use several different kinds of cameras.
Large format or view cameras

If you want to get into photography I would get and SLR. Film or digital.
You can find a good used 35mm SLR for about $200 with a lens. Look at Canon or Nikon
An entry level digital SLR will cost you between $500 and $1000.
Check out the following cameras
Canon Rebel XT, XTI, or XSI
Nikon D40 or D60
Canon and Nikon are the cameras that most pros use. Choose the one that you feel most comfortable holding and using.

Professional photographer use high end cameras including Nikon, Leica, Hasselblad, Linhof, Mamiya and Canon. Pros like to have a camera that can take a beating and have controls that can be adjusted in short time. Other pros prefer cameras like a Lecia rangefinder that will allow them to blend into their environment (fly on the wall). Sports shooters will never be able to blend in but their cameras will want to be fast to autofocus and take alot of photos in bursts (9 frames per second). Landscape pros use medium and large format cameras which are slow to setup, cumbersome and sometimes more fragile but their image quality will far exceed anything capable with a 35mm camera, even high end digital 35mm cameras.

It is all about using the right tool for the job.
