Position:Home>Visual Arts> What effects do different filters apply to black and white film?

Question:Using a 35mm SLR (Canon EOS 1000).

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: Using a 35mm SLR (Canon EOS 1000).

Coloured filters let more light through for their colour, making the emulsion darker, then the effect is reversed when processing (negative to positive).

So, on the PRINT,

A Red filter turns anything the opposite colour darker i.e. Cyan.

A Green filter turn things that are Magenta darker.

A Yellow filter turns thing that are Blue darker.

An Orange filter, being a mixture of Red and Yellow turns Cyan/Blue things darker, notably the sky.

The stronger the filter the more the effect.
