There are different degrees and types of color blindness. It is very rare for someone to have no sense of color at all. In other words, very few color blind people see only in black and white.

For most of the rest, the problem is in how sensitive a person may be to detecting the difference between certain colors. For example, the difference between yellow and a pale green. The clarity of vision has nothing to do with color blindness.

For me, I see all the colors.

The problem comes in to play when you combine the colors that I have problems with. For me that is red and green. Seperate I can see the colors just fine and distinguish between them.

If you jumble them together, then I cannot easily determine which color is which. The colors kind of jump back and forth between the different objects.

So it's not really that you cannot see the colors, they just become indestinguishable between the two when jumbled together.

My husband is color blind and when I get mad at him, I pair up the wrong colored socks for him to wear at work. Seriously, he sees the color pink as tan and can't distinguish the difference between red and green.

If your totally color blind, you see only Black & White and shades of gray.

Ever seen a black and white movie??? It's the same.
