How to paint a babbling brook..?

Question:I'm working on a scenery painting, & trying to paint a babbling brook, & I can't seem to get the "color" of running water? What can I do to make this effect?

Water is colorless, but reflects the color of whatever is around it. What is close to you and is shallow will be influenced by whatever is beneath it. Think of it as a wiggly mirror.
