Question:Okay, one of my students posed this question: Is the actual difference between the two objects simply whether or not someone's remains have been interred in it??

Yeah I think so. An urn is used to contain the ashes of a loved one; a vase usually holds flowers or other decorations. So an urn contains the dead, and a vase contains the living. Kinda cool huh?

one is pooier

isnt a vase something that's not covered, and you can put things like flowers in it, and an urn has a lid... im not sure if you can put other stuff in it other than remains tho

urn = usually associated with people ashes

vase= flowers & such

A urn is where the ashes go when someone has died and they've been cremated. A vase is where you put floweres in. I think basically the only difference is that one has a lid and the other doesn't.
