Interpret it?! It is a painting of dancers! That is all there is to it. No secret. No mystery.

this is a famous impressionist's painting of some ballerinias at a show ready to go on stage. If you are looking for some more paintings like this I highly recomend Renoir, he is one of my favorites.

it's a beautiful piece.. i'm not sure what the artist's intended as it's interpretation but that's part of the beauty of it.. everyone has thier own perspective or meaning in a painting.. for me, it's being nervous backstage before a dance recital.. the beauty in the impefections we all try to ignore..

There is no interpretation. It is anecdotical. Two dancer sitting and resting waiting for their turn to enter de stage that you see at right. No more than that.It is a slice of life.

It's a view into the world of what goes on behind the "show".

For example, when two prizefighters enter a ring and get the emotions of the crowd going, it isn't something that just happens. It's the process of both of them working for months to get ready for that moment.

The same concept applies here.

You appear to believe that all paintings have a 'meaning' or something to interpret beyond what is apparent, and this is not always the case. Sometimes, as in this case with Degas, the painting is about exactly what it appears to be about. It's a frozen moment from real life. Nothing more or less. Often a person's effort to glean 'meaning' from a thing obscures the thing itself. Just look. Don't try to analyze, or you may miss the picture.
