Position:Home>Visual Arts> Help drawing the same character twice?

Question:I make up my own anime characters sometimes and when I do, well, I find it hard to draw the same character again. I can get the hair, eyes, clothes, ect, but when you look at the face, it just doesn't register as the face of the character I created. please help ^^ If you draw, or had the same problem and found an answer, it would be REALLY helpful. :) Thanks.

Many times manga characters really DO have the same faces, just different hair and clothing.
Try adding specific details to the faces that are unique to your characters. Give them a different lip shape (fuller, more bowed, smaller, etc), more emphasis on the eye (heavier lashes, a curve to the end, a more cat eye effect, eyes closer or wider, etc),a different facial shape alltogether, or a defining mark like a mole or scar. Make sure you pay attention to each of the nuances you give your characters and take special care to replicate them in the next drawing.
If you give them specific details and are consistent, perhaps your characters will being to look more like themselves.

Sometimes I use a ruler to measure the proportions and how far apart the eyes are and how long/tall they are and then do the same with the other facial features. It works most of the time if you do it correctly.

I also love to draw .You can use tracing papers to draw exactly the same image again or to make it more natural you can keep the previously drawn image in front of you and then draw the image.Practice the same image twice so you can get the dame imaga but not exact slight diffrence will be noticed. For exactly same image tracing paper (butter paper) is the best option.

Picking the eyes and hair (together with the jawline) are the most distinct features in anime (and many other cartoon styles) characters. Eyes on their own are pretty much the same but the shape of the eyebrows and the colour of pupils add distinction, for hair you should give each character a different style, this could be as simple as a fringe or pony tails.

Don't worry about using a ruler or stencil they are a tool like a pencil, denying yourself a tool like this makes your job harder.
