You have a lot of choices and you'll get a good deal on second hand. I'd certainly consider a top of the range Canon, Nikon or Leica - they are all great cameras but a trip to a decent second hand pro shop may swing it your decision in terms of either a deal, or in terms of the 'feel' the camera gives you.

craigslist in a city near you will have some good choices .. the best part is you get to hold the camera in your hands and see what kind of condition it is in before you part with your money

Look for a good used Nikon or Canon 35mm SLR with lens for under $200.
