Position:Home>Visual Arts> Which camera should I get?

Question:Photography has always been a hobby of mine and I love it. Until now I have just had a point and shoot camera but I am going to Paris this summer for a month and would like a more serious camera but as it is just a hobby I don't know very much about them. So what would be better, Canon or Nikon (I have worked a little bit with both and really do not care for the Rebel) and what model?

In my opinion, I would get the Nikon D40 with the lense kit.
I received this for Christmas and I absolutely love it! It has all sorts of features that will help you succeed with your photography. Hope that helped!

personaly i like canon. but both are great cameras.

The canon rebel xti is a great camera.

You just need to work with it a little more.

Consumer Reports gives a detailed description and set of ratings for compact and subcompact digital cameras in its November 2007 issue. You should look for a camera with at least 6 megapixels, at least a 5x optical zoom, and image stabilization. Canon and Fujifilm cameras took up six of the top seven compacts, while Sony and Canon took up five of the top six subcompacts. If I were going traveling, I would choose the Samsung L77 subcompact, which for $250 list has 7 megapixels, a 7x optical zoom lens, image stabilization, very good picture quality, and a very good next-shot delay (i.e., very short). CR rated it as a Best Buy.

Good compacts with similar features would include the Canon A710 IS ($270), Canon S3 IS ($290), and the Nikon S10 ($250). The Fujifilm F31fd ($220) was rated as a Best Buy, but has only a 3x zoom lens, still very useful.
