Difference between 6 MegaPixel camera and 8 MegaPixel camera?

Question:I'm novice at photography :) But I've seen many photographs which were taken with 6 megapixels camera and they look as good as pics which were taken with 8 megapixel camera. Since I'm looking for a camera to buy I really need to know if it really matters, thanks

It seems that everyone here is stuck on the pixel count of sensors.

Pixel count is one of four factors that can help you determine the quality and resolution you can expect from a digital camera.

* Quality of the lens
* Sensor size
* Pixel count
* The quality and sophistication of the analog to digital converter within the camera.

2 megapixels im thinking.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe that the more megapixels, the closer you can digitally zoom in with out everything becoming pixelated.

2 megapixel is the difference. The 8 megapixel doesn't mean that the picture quality is better, it means that the picture can be blown up to a larger size than the 6 megapixel.

Go with the 8 mega pixel, you can make the picture look larger.

its more clear on the 8.0 mega.

it just means a bigger resolution which means a bigger/clearer picture

well it depends of what type of camera it is...sometimes if u have more mega pixels you get a better quality of the picture or the camera will hold more pictures...hope i helped

the higher the megapixel, the beter the resolution of the photo, which is important for enlargements or clarity. if you are just starting out, i'd go with the smaller one, as they are usually cheaper.

The difference will ultimately depend on the sensor inside the camera.

the more pixels the camera has, the clearer the picture. if you are taking stills, a higher pixel is better. if you are taking action shots, a lower number of pixels will help keep away a blur in your pictures.
the more pictures, the more defined your picture will remain as it is enlarged. if you have a lower pixelated picture, the photo will appear blurry much sooner than if you were to have a higher number of pixels.
just because the pixels are higher does not mean the quality of the picture will be better. you have to have a steadier hand, such as a tripod when setting the camera to it's highest quality. if you go to best buy, or any specialty photography store you can discuss the differences with them. it really all depends on your purposes.

OK here is the difference.

Draw yourself 2 - 1 inch squares. Then put 6 dots in one and 8 dots in the other. Now, imagine that you have 100 of those 1 inch squares put together. Which do you think will have the better image quality, the 6 dots in the square or the 8 dots in the square. The dots represent the "pixels" in which your image is created from. Your not going to see an imitate difference if your an armature because your eye has not been trained to see the "flaws".

I would always go with the camera that offers the most in pixels. Ex. 8 mega Pixel, 10 mega Pixel. Of course, the more mega Pixels you go the more expensive your camera will get. I would also suggest going with a Cannon or a Nikon.

Sure you can get a bigger photo with 2 more mega pixels.

But that is not the bottom line.

A good camera will have a good imaging sensor, and that makes a difference.

Also, manufacturers are into the megapixel wars and what they say and what is reality my be two different animals.

They've basically said it all....I actually asked this question when I was buying my latest camera. Printing them? Go with the 8. Better quality.

a 6 mp camera will do for you if you don't intend to go all into professional photography straight away. the cameras with more mega pixels can produce large posters out of the photos they take, for example.
the thing is that if a camera comes with more mega pixels as a feature it will probably also have other features that make it less of a point-and-shoot camera and more toward professional.

but anyway on a photo you're looking at on your computer, you cannot tell the difference between 6 mp and 8 mp. so you decide what you want. :]]
