Position:Home>Visual Arts> Help with a topic for a photography class?

Question:Okay this is a ridiculously vague question but hopefully someone's answer will start me thinking about things.

I am taking a visual journalism subject at uni and have an assignment that is simply to "tell a story". It doesn't have to be newsworthy but just has to be an example of storytelling. It is to be presented in 10 still images or 10 minutes of edited video footage or a combination of both.

I am soo stuck for an idea. I want the story to be simple and easy to follow and present since I don't have much photography experience. It also has to be something I can go back to several times during the semester to improve my work and take more photos. I don't want it to be something menial and cliche like "A day in the life of..."

From the limited photos I've taken with my newly borrowed camera, I've discovered that my photos of people stand out more than landscapes or architecture. I would also like it to be something that draws a strong reaction from its audience.

Any ideas?

well..the best way to get creative ideas is to travel....cos u'll see lot of stuff and get inspired....i think for ur project, taking a lot of photos that tell a story would be interesting....

here's a idea....u can take photos of a family getting ready for work from a very low angle....and at the end u can show that, the perspective was from an insect's view..just an idea.....

dogs eye view?

have you got a park near your uni? why not do a story of a tree? people sitting underneath, night / day , taken over the semester
and it's spring now, so the leaves are coming out..

simple, but could be good

Take pictures of people doing something like playing a sport but only take the picture of their shadows. I hope thats what your aiming for.

tell a story of life or love?

how something develops through time, a flower? a life? a fear?

dont think so simply has to be a story think about anything that follows a path, a path through life is a story. =]

hope that helps

couple trying to concieve
first day of school
divorce
death of father
lonely people find each other
abortion
OCD

The ideas should come from you. The whole point of the exercise is to a) use the photography principles to craft and image and b) to use your imagination to come up with an idea.

If your professor wanted us to do your homework for you, they would have asked us to do it.

You will learn nothing and not be forced to learn to think if you rely on others for things like this.
