The CD that came with your camera has a program call Digital Photo Professional. It is used to convert RAW files to TIF (my preference) or JPG so that they can be views or edited in photoshop.

okay, you need to go to the cannon website and download the raw plug in

you should have gotten software with your camera to allow you to open up raw files. I have photoshop and use a nikon RAW plug-in that allows me to open mine.

There are instructions on the Adobe website on how to install this plug-in needed to view raw pictures. Most of the newer cameras (like the XTi) weren't supported in the original Elements 3.0, so you have to upgrade to Camera Raw 3.6. Once you install the plug-in, your program will recognize the raw photos, and then you can save them as .jpg files on a disc if you want to print them out at CVS. This is the link for the Windows version, but there is also one on that site for Macs if that is what you are using.

Obviously you do not understand the function of RAW. It is not a usable format in and of itself. A RAW file must be "processed" into a JPEG or TIFF format.

RAW is likened to a digital equivalent of a film negative. Your RAW converter software, (supplied to you on the CD that came with your camera), is your "digital darkroom". You can adjust the white balance, exposure, saturation, sharpness, and many other aspects of the photo. Plus you have the ability to work in a much broader color space, (16 bits).

A photo will usually look WORSE when taken in RAW format until it is processed. When you shoot in JPEG, the camera is automatically making many of it's own adjustments.

Did you read your manual at all? It explains the RAW format and what the purpose is and requirements to use it.

The camera came with programs you need to view / edit / convert RAW files to JPG / TIFF that can be used to print at a local shop. Use the CD that is in the box and install (at least) Digital Photoshop Professional vesion 3.2.

Or you can use Adobe Lightroom. http://www.adobe.com/lightroom.

You need a program that can read and convert the RAW files.
