The best way to become a professional photographer is much the same as anything else.... practice. Art and Design will help give you an understanding in theory and developing an eye for good composition, but you will learn the most out in the field.

You're lucky to have a great resource and a world of experience in your family. Ask your auntie if you can assist her on some shoots, ask questions, learn and get as much experience as you can.

There's loads of good books out there which are a fantastic resource for inspiration, theory and technical knowledge.

Photography does pay well. The better your reputation, the more you can charge much like anything else. It also depends what area of photography you want to be in.

Best of luck! I wish you every success!

I am not a photographer myself but I have worked at a few studios and am friends with photographers. Almost everyone I talk to loves it, but it is hard work sometimes. The pay all depends on what you're shooting and what market your going after. Weddings and seniors were the biggest at Tim Carnes Photography when I worked for him. I am currently in the process of possibly getting a job as a photographer for a small studio that runs like the picture people at $10 an hour with very little experience.

You don't really need to study photography in school. You can learn from practice. That is what I have done so far. I love photography.
It depends what area of photography you want to get into. Portraits, freelance, there are a lot of options out there. If you are freelance it will depend how much people like your photographs and how much they are willing to pay for them.
