You should get into the habbit of formatting your SD card before each use, in camera (most digital cameras have a format memory option buried within it's menu tree). Most memory cards do not require formatting straight out of the box, as is the same with most media since the days of the 1.44 meg diskettes that came with an IBM format. Sometimes the file structure of a particular brand of media can become unrecognizable to the camera and corruptions can arise. If a single memory location becomes corrupted, every time a file is written using that location will also become corrupted, even if there are other files which are not. That's life, really. And the nature of digital electronics. Try reformatting the card, from the camera. That should clear the corruption, allowing the camera to write the file structure itself. You'll find the camera having less trouble writing to it, and reading from it. I recommed the windows media wizard to copy the files over to your hard drive as it allows you to erase what's on there after copying. Then put the card back in your camera and format it. Do this every time, and you will be good to go. Hope that works out for you. Good luck.

It sounds like your memory card is corrupting.

Does the Powershot have internal memory? If so, try shooting some photos without the SD card and see what happens. That will help determine if its the camera or the SD card.
