Artists which look at a kind of mental descent?

Question:mental turmoil or despair, going mad, a sense of loss, erosion..

for an art project. i'm thinking of Bacon and Munch.
can you think of anything similar, or better still completely different, using the same theme?

There is a genre called Outsider Art which is basically the art of mentally disturbed, mentally disabled ,prisoners ... you could look up that topic. There are some amazing unknown talents in this area.
I am a big fan of Munch, you could also look at Goya's work.

I'd definitely check out Goya. Especially his Black Paintings are very concerned with madness. At the time he was pretty much a hermit and painted these unsettling works on the walls in his own home. He was (going) deaf and often thought he was going mad. So, they're very autobiographical.

He has also done a few works in which he depicts a mental institute, which are very captivating and interesting.

Also, I think Egon Schiele's work has a sense of despair in it.
