What can i do for my final art exam which is based on barriers?

Question:So far i have researched vettriano and got images on elephants and other stuff. I like to inclde both these things in my final piece but dont no how to. Any ideas?

for emotional barriers i'd look at Edvard Munch, particularly the scream, ashes, and the dance of life, and draw/paint from people, looking at different emotions and expressions and how to convey this in a painting. not sure how to link that with elephants though, sorry :S maybe you could link emotions with dreams (subconscious emotions perhaps) and then start going more surreal. (because when i think of elephants in art i immediately think of Dali)

How about a watercolor of and elephant looking into a lake and seeing its reflection? Maybe, about to dip a foot into the lake as if its reaching out to the intangible self in the watery world.
