Wow I feel sorry for you, heavy, inconsistent and expensive. To get a thin layered coat, it takes a little practice. First you need a wider brush. Flats and Brights tend to work the best, on occasions fans can work well. Then work in strips pulling the paint in the same direction every time. If there is texture in your paper, go with the grain. Watering it down can help, but like I said it already dries uneven, puddling and streaks in the pigment are bound to happen, but dont be discouraged. If you need clean lines while painting, try using the edge of a clean sheet of paper instead of tape. Tape can leave residue which will in turn equal into uneven pigments and water spots and mess.

You will need to paint at least 2 coats of paint!

Spray it on the surface.

You have to seperately mis a small amount of your Gouche paint with the correct amount of H2O to obtain the shade of color desired, when obtained only use that paint to create your even coverage for that particular share. Oftentimes, some artists use blow dryers to help with the drying process or paint under direct sunlight. Keep in mind that the semi-unevenness of the coloring is part of the paint's style. You do not have to go with the grain of the paper, since paper has varied dirctional grain running throughtout its sheeting. My advice is to practice on spare canvas until you have a feel for what the paint is capable of prior to creating your master piece.
