Question: Quick! What year is The Merchant of Venice set in!?
Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Shakespeare wrote "Merchant" as a contemporary play, sometime between 1596 and 1598!. One of the reasons that Shakespeare is still performed after 400 years, is that he did not lock in anything but the text!.
A director is free to set this, like any Shakespeare play, in virtually any time or place!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
