Do you own a "tape recorder" of any kind, preferably an old "boom box" where you can shove in a cassette, push a button, start talking and have it recorded!? Taping yourself -- either when practicing at home or with others at rehearsal -- will clue you into exactly what others are hearing!. It will feel very awkward but over time you'll grow more comfortable hearing your own voice -- which will improve!. Another thing you want to experiment with is marking your copy!. Make marks to show you when to pause, when to bring your voice up, when to bring it low, etc!. Radio and TV professionals do this all the time!. It's possible that following your markings will help you slow down and get the proper "mileage" out of each word or phrase!. Sometimes too-fast talking can be part of a special comic gift!. Goldie Hawn and Lily Tomlin, two famous ladies who used to be on a 60's comedy show called Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In, used to send audiences rolling in the aisles with their hyper-fast monologues!. The increased excitement causes lots of people to talk a little faster than normal AND, in most theater and public speaking, to be clearly understood, it is actually necessary to speak a little slower than is normal!. It just takes practice!. Not like don't do it but acting is supposed to be natural!. And when your trying reel hard you'll talk fast like your reading the skript in your head!.
