Question: What do do when you're really not happy with the casting outcome!?
He wants to rewrite it to be two sisters, but still!.!.!.damn it!. I didn't want that part!

They call Arty one of the two lead roles, but I still think his character development is pathetic next to Bella!.

"Thank you very much to everybody for auditioning!. I was very impressed with your English and with your enthusiasm for performing a play in English!. You all should be very proud of your accomplishments so far in a foreign language!.

I've decided on the following cast for Lost In Yonkers:

Jay: Lotte S!.
Arty: Nina S!.
Eddie: Shayne
Bella: Anna R!.
Grandma: Fabiana
Louie: Frederik J!.
Gert: Kuvenee

Happy Holidays! See you all next year
-Nate"

Sometimes I wonder why people go into acting because it is so full of experiences like this!.

What did I do when I was unhappy with the casting outcome!? Cried a bit!. I didn't persist, however, and I think I should have!.

I have a 15-year-old daughter now who has been active in theater since she was 9 or so!. She has scored a couple of major roles, but otherwise tends to be relegated to the chorus or bit parts!. I continue to be impressed that she reminds herself (when it doesn't go her way, and most of the time it doesn't) that she is gaining valuable experience by being in the show, there is something to be learned and gained from portraying any character, and that if she chooses for her career to be long and continues to work hard, she will certainly get the parts she hopes for sometimes, and perhaps increasingly more as she gains experience!.

I think she cries a little too, but then lets it go!. And she always acts like a professional!. I know that has been noticed!.

Remember!.!.!. if you are young, what's happening in high school theater can only help you, it won't hurt you unless you let it get you down!. Plenty of leading ladies wouldn't have impressed their high school directors I feel certain!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You act like a professional and play the role of the part you landed!. There are no boring parts, only boring actors!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

i understand your dissappointment!. it's tough to want something very badly and feel that you deserve something and watch it get taken by someone else!. it's even worse in theatre because normally if you don't get the part you want but still get cast, you get the great pleasure of someone else doing the role you wanted!. but the bottom line is this isn't your show!. you're not directing it!. you're not casting it!. you certainly didn't write it!. i feel you should learn a very good lesson from this situation: if you're only going to auditon for a play in the hopes of getting ONE ROLE out of all of the roles being cast, maybe you should reconsider auditioning!. and i think you're out of line calling the character development pathetic!. especially of o'neil!. ummmm!.!.!.!.!.he's known for his characters and the journey they take!. i would ask of you to take a step out of your own head and reevaluate your situation!. a) can you get over it!? if you can't, maybe doing this show is a bad idea!. is your attitude going to effect not only how you approach your own character but how you interact with the other characters, not to mention the other actors!. b)have you considered the idea that someone wanted your role!? the fact that you called your characters path "pathetic" and you "didn't want that part!" screams whiney actor!. be greatful that you were cast!. i'm almost positive that there were people cast or not cast who wanted your role!. and despite that fact that you would apparently give up the role in trade for the other!.!.!.life doesn't work that way!. you should put all your former negative thoughts to the past, where they belong, and focus instead on the aspects of your character that you are ignorant of!. if you get on stage and your character comes across as pathetic or uninteresting this won't be regarded as a mistake of the playwright (multi-tony award winning, pulitzer prize winning, kennedy center honoree, golden globe award winning playwright BY THE WAY!!!)!. it will be seen as a lack of talent on your part!. so i suggest you make the best of it! break a leg!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You live with it, and move on!. It's all part of being an actor!. Things like this happen, and will happen again!.

At the end of the day, it's not your script!. While you may think a character is better (probably only because you wanted to play it), the character may not suit the story and ideas the production team have!.

This happened to me recently, when I auditioned for a role!. The production team said I would have been cast to play the character in it's original form, but they had decided to take the character in another direction!. So I accepted their decision, and moved on!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

In my experience in acting you take whatever part you're given and count yourself lucky to have it!. You must have been really good for the writer/director (not sure which) to want to rewrite one of the lead roles for you, so I would take that as a major compliment!. As for the character development, it's up to you to find out why the character does and says the things she does!. I know you might have wanted another part but those who cast already have the kind of person they want for each role in mind in conjunction with their vision of the play, so you must fit the criteria for Arty!. Congratulations on your leading role and you'll most likely enjoy it once you get rehearsing etc!. Break a leg!Www@QuestionHome@Com
