Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Is this UN-FAIR.........?!?

Question: Is this UN-FAIR!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!?!!?
so we had a U!.I!.L play at school and i auditioned and everyone said i did really well!. i have had acting classes for a long time and am experienced in theatre!.

so anyway, on the casting list, every single part was an eighth grader except for one girl who got a minor role and she was in 7th grade (my grade)

the teacher only gave them the roles because it's their "last year" and some of them did worse than the sixth graders! isn't this unfair that the eighth graders got parts just because they're in their last year!? i am not saying i should have gotten a main role, its just that i wasn't even in the play because all things were eighth graders except for lights and sound (which were 7th graders)

how should i handle tis!? i was thinking i would show how responsible i am to the teacher by going to all the practices even though I'm not in the cast to show how much i wanted to participate!. i want her to feel bad for doing something so unfair!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Not to be rude, but life is unfair!. :)

No, I get what your saying!. And yes, I feel that directors should give roles to people who deserve them, regardless of age!. But some directors feel that people who are in their last year (or only have one more chance, if you will) should get their chance to shine!.

Sorry about you not getting a role though!.

also, you should keep auditioning, and talk to your director!. Ask her about tips that would make you better!.

But I wouldn't go to the rehearsals!. I don't know about your's, but my director gets mad when people who are not in the production show up!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

How do you handle it!? Toughen up!. It is the teachers job to decide who gets it!. And I agree with her, the kids that have not had a chance should get one!. And if you are intentionally trying to hurt that teacher, you are a real jerk!. She can not please everyone!. And she will remember you next time for being an idiot!. Leave her alone!. you should go ahead and be responsible!.!.!.its what im doing!.!.!.-_-* in our production, Peter Pan, i got a really itsy bitsy part!.!.!.and im more dedicated than the seniors!.!.!.(who got all the good roles) it is irritating!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

first of all, i know how you feel! i've been through all that kind of stuff!.!.!.but let me tell you, there are so many more opportunities out there! i know it seems unfair, and in part it is, but i do understand what the teacher was trying to do!. some school teachers/directors do have a soft spot for the older kids who don't have as much time left to get parts!. i would first advise you not to give up!! but going to the rehearsals even though you are not in the play to show your dedication might not be the best thing!. i don't know if the rehearsals are closed rehearsals, but the teacher might get frustrated or worried that you might be a distraction if you are there and not in it!. i would probably talk to the teacher herself about how you think it is unfair if that is the only reason why the eighth graders got parts!. but be sure to do it respectfully and calmly, or you will might never get a part!. just tell her how you feel and see if there's any way she can compromise!. even if she doesn't change her mind, you at least will be able to know her reasons behind it all, whether you agree with them or not!.

i hope i was helpful! please continue to audition for things though! ;)Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'm in a similar situation as you, so I understand how you are feeling!. At my school, we have production classes and every year they put on a play!. This year, the production class was a bit small so the teacher asked my drama class to help out with some of the smaller roles!. Anyways basically the production class people NEVER show up for rehearsal and we show up for them all and it's really frustrating because they seem not to care!.!.!.

Unfortunately there isn't much you can do about it!. The teacher should be giving roles out based on the acting ability!. Going to all the rehearsals is a good idea but like someone said before, find out if your teacher would get mad if you show up when your not needed!. also, maybe you can ask the teacher if there is anything else you can help with!. Maybe you can help with the costumes or the sets or the props!.

Hopefully, this will show her how dedicated you are and then next time you'll get a better role!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I know exactly how you feel!

I am also in seventh grade and it angers me greatly when the more "experienced" and slightly more "talented" eighth-graders get the bigger roles, when usually us seventh graders are much more talented when it comes to REAL acting!.

I would show up as well, it's the mature thing to do!. Besides, next year, you'll have a much better chance at roles!. But I would talk to her and express your feelings!. Teachers usually appreciate it when you let them know those types of things!.

Good luck! Www@QuestionHome@Com
