Question: I want to become an actress but my mom wants me to get a college degree first, what do I do!?
My mom wants me to go to college and obtain a degree before I go out into the acting world just in case it falls through!. I have taken numerous courses but nothing stands out to me at all!. I was thinking about majoring in Journalism and minoring in Theatre and Dance, with an acting concentration!. I need advice, and no, I don't want to hear that I'm stupid for trying to pursue an acting career!. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I need all the advice I can get!.

You are not "Stupid" for having high hopes for yourself!. It is good to aspire to be more than the average person as long as you know what you are capable of, and what you can handle!. Just know, that if you do become famous you will have no privacy at all!. Your life will constantly be splattered all over magazines world wide, also rumors!. You have to be well prepared for your privacy to be completely invaded!. My honest opinion is to get a college degree first, considering competition is VERY high in the acting business and it will give you security to know you have a college degree to fall back on in case the acting gig falls through!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
All the above answers are good, but it's interesting to me that the most obvious answer has yet to appear!. Get your degree in teaching, (preferably English), with a theatre arts (or similar) minor!. This gives you the training you need to give the acting profession your very best shot, but at the same time gives you a marketable skill, in the event acting doesn't work out!. Then, if it's necessary to work as a teacher, you still have the knowledge to act in local community and/or college productions, as well as direct high school productions where you teach!. Get a degree! I think it's great that you're trying to pursue an acting career, but it's extremely hard to break into the business and become famous!. If you're just interested in acting, it's possible to find shows that pay, but it's nearly impossible to make a living off of!. 2 or 3 months worth of rehearsals, and 6-8 shows usually pays about $50-$100 a show, depending on the theatre company!.
Acting works better as a hobby than a career!. Get a degree, get a job, and be an actor on the side!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

but alas, im afraid mother is right!. go to college and major in whatever you want (theater might make sense, because a lot of people cant fit a concentration into their major)!.
the shows you do in college will prepare you so much for later on and there is nothing worse that regretting a choice way down the road!. get the advice and mentorship of the professors and enjoy the 4+ years!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
