Question: The Play Auntie Mame!?
Has anyone here read/been in a production of the play Auntie Mame!? Not the musical Mame! The straight play!. If so,is it any good!? I was thinking of directing it and I ant to know about it!. The characters!? Is it easy to stage!? Is it a good script!? Is it appropriate!? And anything else you can think of!.
I have seen the movie with Rosalind Russell, but you know how plays differ from movies lots of times!.

Thanks in advance!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Oddly enough, the movie version is very?much like the movie!. I suppose when it was made, they did not deviate as much from plays as they do now!. Both Rosalind Russell and Peggy Cass were in the original as well as the movie, so I think they had a little creative input!. The play is really good and there are a lot of really heartwarming scenes that a director with good actors could "milk" - ok as long as it is realistic!. If you loved the book, then I am sure you will have the same passion while directing this!. The themes are universal and untimely - still make lots of sense now!. I would pick the script up and give it your energy!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would think that, as a director, your first job would be to read the play!. This would give you all kinds of information as to whether it's any good, or whether it would be easy to stage in your venue!. It will also tell you who the characters are, and what they're like, which will, in turn, tell you whether it's "appropriate" (whatever that's supposed to mean)!. Try it!. You'll be amazed at the wealth of information that can be packed into so few pages!. Www@QuestionHome@Com
