Question: Could some of the best actors in Hollywood/Film Industry use their skills to beat a lie detector test !?
I'm guessing, if as an actor, one LIVES off of 'escapism' and pouring their heart, mind, body and soul into the character they portray on the big screen - so much so they are no longer themselves but that character, surely then they could use this to their advantage when taking a lie detector test !?
i!.e An actor decides to create himself a completely 'innocent character' caught in a situation where he/she feels they've been set up and the evidence was planted at the scene etc etc
they take the test, but not as themselves but as this 'character' which they are now 'acting' !.
interesting wouldnt you think !? I'm just really intrigued now because It means that acting could beat the Lie detector !?
or could it !? am i missing something here !? Surely if you ESCAPED yourself and became somebody ELSE - you're none the smarter and the lie detector test is annihilated heh!.

What a good question!.
I suppose it would depend on whether you were a technical or a method actor!.
I work in a theatre and have done for the last fourteen years, and I've also been lucky enough to meet most of the cast from my four favourite programmes!. In that time I've seen many different individual acting styles but they all boil down to (a) technical or (b) method!.
The difference, to my eyes, (I'm not an actor, I'm a technician) seems to be that a method actor has to try and find something within himself that matches his character - he has to believe that he, personally, is capable of whatever the character does!. Fine if you're playing a sympathetic person, or in a short role, but I've been told 'method acting for TV will eat you alive', especially if you're playing a villain!. (and having seen the state of the guy when he finished the role, I'd agree with him!.)
This is a (long-winded!) way of saying; a technical actor might have trouble, because for them putting on a character, however plausible, is like putting on a jumper, but a method actor might well fool a lie detector because they actually do change!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
No!.!.!.!. A "Polygraph" measures precise physical responses!.hart rate!.!.!.!.breathing!.!.temperature ect!. acting is a craft!.!.!.a good examiner will take several hours to draw a good baseline for further questions!.!.!.when a person acts it is like a coat you put on!.!.!.you are still who you are under the coat!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
Umm I've taken a lie det!. test for a private investigator class but I was in theater and film for 13 yrs I easily lied about the day of the week!. Not because of my acting because I could make myself really believe that it was not monday it was wednesday!. Controlling your heart rate is also important!. But yes I do see where your coming from like extreme acting believing you are the character however the first questions they ask you are going to test the machine what is today's date blah blah blah then they're going to ask you did you ever smoke pot well then your like whoa where did that come from and heart starts beating b/c that wasn't part of the script!. It's all very complex but if you can control your heart beat and breathing and really believe what your saying then yes in a sense your smater and a dam good actor/actressWww@QuestionHome@Com
