Question: Question about The Sound of Music!!?

What do you think is the age range of someone to can play Maria from Sound of Music!? The community theatre that I'm involved in is thinking of doing SoM for the summer show and I'm wondering if I should be preparing to audition for Liesl or Maria!. I'll be almost 20 by that time, but I just finished playing Annie Oakley my school's production of Annie Get Your Gun!.

I was in The Sound of Music when I was 14!.!.!. I was cast as Louisa!. If you look younger for your age, go for Leisl, but there really isn't a problem with auditioning for Maria at age 19!. The girl who played Maria when I did it was only 18, although she did look a little older!. I don't think age should really be your main concern though, you should probably be thinking about voice range and how strong your voice is!. Both roles call for strong voices, so make sure you have that down pat!. Choose whichever role fits your personality best to make it more natural!. But there is absolutely nothing wrong with auditioning for Maria at 19!. Good luck!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Its not written specificly anywhere but she's quite a bit older then liesl and acts like a mother figure to her!. But she's not gone into a work or vocation yet and is at the abbey doing training and deciding wether she wants to be a nun!. In the end she marries the captain who is about 40!. I think she is in her 30's but she could be anywhere from 28-40!

I would reccomend you audition for Liesl she is more your age and you'll have alot of fun!.

It'll depend on who else is cast - if the Captain is younger then they may consider a younger Maria!. I'd say that Liesl may be a better bet for you though!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
