Question: How to sound less congested!!?!!?
I had a cold this past week!. I'm mostly better now, but I still sound all congested and a little raspy when I speak!. I have a performance this Saturday!.

I know the basics drink lots of lukewarm water, tea, & salt water!. I really don't like tea & the taste of salt water makes me gag!. I've been drinking lots of lukewarm water though, occasionally with a little lemon juice in it!.

It's a short skit & I only have a few lines, but we've all worked really hard & I want to do my best!. This will bother me & make me self conscious, so is there anything else I can do to help it!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

What works really well is a steamer!. You can buy one at any pharmacy!. I think Vicks sells one--you just inhale hot steam!. It clears out your sinuses so you can speak clearly!. It's also great for singers!.

Drinking just lots of water can help, even if it's cold!. The idea behind this is to "flush" your system of infectious agents!.

By physically lowering your palette (opening your throat so your Adam's apple moves down), you can also achieve a less nasal sound, also!. You can also try placing your sound more in your mask and less in your nose!.

Get a lot of sleep!. Not enough sleep does more harm to your voice than you can imagine!. And not being healthy will just make it worse!.
