Question: Question about a character from the play "A view from the Bridge"!. Help from some creative theatre people!?
I am portraying Catherine in "A view from the Bridge" in a college production!. My director wants us to think of an animal that is like our character!. So, the question is, what animal (or bug) does Catherine make you think of!? I already have some ideas, such as Catherine is like a butterfly!. She has been kept cocooned for so long and now she is finally become her own beautiful self!. But that's just one idea, I'd love to hear some other ideas!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well one of the most obvious is that she is a bird who has not been able to fly I guess thats a lot like your butterfly

Maybe a mouse shes like a frightened mouse when eddie starts being mean to her and Rodolfo

How a bout a squirrl she is able to take care of herself and is easily startled

I've heard of this exercise before I'd say your director knows what they are doing

good luck with the show

i think you have a pretty good grasp on the character!. make sure you take into account arthur miller's use of traditional greek tragedy as a model for this play and the characters!. see how catherine is caught in between the protagonist and the antagonist!? it may change your view on the butterfly!. how does she respond to the two men and the situation created!? does it still remind you of a butterfly!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
