Question: Modeling and Acting a sin !?!? !?

I've always wanted to be either a model or an actress, however my family is very religious, christian religion, and my dad says modeling and acting is a sin!. Because they make u pose naked or sexy poses for modeling, and if you dont do them, then ur fired!. And for acting, they make u play in w!.e movie they want u to and if u dont ur fired!.!.!.!?

Please help me!

Now listen, I am a Christian and an actor, and dedicated whole-heartedly to both!. Your Dad's right in some respects!. A sin is anything that distances you from Jesus and you have to work out which things will do that!. Acting uses your gifts of sensitivity, compassion, understanding - pretty Jesus-like if you ask me!. Modelling is a waste of time and yes, you are completely the puppet of the agencies!. Don't do it!. Using your gifts connects us with God, because He gave them to us, but misusing them does the opposite!. So no, a Christian actor would never ever do porn, for example!. But acting is a great way to deepen your understanding of the human condition and as you develop as an actor, you will become very aware of who you are and what kind of person God has made you!. There was a wonderful series about 10 years ago in the UK called "The Gospels", where 6 of Britain's most highly regarded actors acted out the New Testament, just in their plain clothes on a bare studio floor, but with the deepest understanding of God's word that I have ever heard!. So, I'll finish by imploring you to use your God-given wisdom to guide you to make the right moral choices as you pursue your acting career!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Let me tell you a story about a young Christian actress I met about a year ago!. She was hired by a theatre company for a full season consisting of several plays spread out over many months!. Then she found out that in one of the plays her character said some lines that involved taking the Lord's name in vain!. She told the director that she couldn't say those lines!. The company considered firing her, but decided instead to let her take an unpaid leave of absence during that play!. (The actress they hired to replace her was also a Christian, but had different views about what constituted sinful conduct on stage!.)

You have to decide for yourself what is morally right for you!. And you have to be ready to accept that you might lose some acting jobs because of the moral code you choose to live by!. But you should know that it is possible to find acting jobs that you will not consider sinful!. I think you have to have a certain amount of openness to be an actor and you have to be prepared to take risks!. Narrow, conservative thinking is not a match for these professions!. Wait until you are old enough to make a decision for yourself!.

You will be asked to compromise your conservative Christian thinking if you want to become a highly successful model!. However, there is always Sears catalogue type of modelling (low end)!. So you have to ask yourself why you want to do these things and how successful you want to be!. These days, very successful actresses can opt out of nude scenes, but the best actresses embrace what they believe is necessary for their art!.

There is a LOT of pressure in those fields!. They are very competitive!.

You seem to be misinformed!.!.!.as an actor or actress, you have much more control over your career than you think!. Your agent finds potential roles, and if the role goes too strongly against your morals or personal boundaries, don't even audition!. And as a model, you can do many print campaigns that don't involve nudity or suggestive poses!. Sounds like your family is trying to brainwash you!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I hate contradicting your father, but the fact is, he's under-informed!. Yes, the things he describes CAN happen, but there are many (I say, MANY) modeling agencies and many (again, MANY) theatre companies and movie &/or TV studios that do not engage in such behaviors!. No one can "make" you do anything you don't want to do!. If someone asks something of you that you're not comfortable with, you move on to the next job, just like in real life!. There is no industry on earth that has NO bad people doing bad things to other people, but that doesn't make any of them "sinful"!.

I understand the modeling, but you should probably make your father understand that not all modeling agents and jobs are like that!. If you're parents are VERY Religious!.!.!. then ask them kindly to reflect on self-alientation!.!.!. (I'm learning this in Religion right now!.!.!.:P) In the Garden of Eden, when Adam and Eve realized they were naked, they hid from God, being shameful of what He created for them!. This is much like modeling, I guess!. You can't hide yourself from what makes you happy!. Maybe they'll understand in time that if acting and modeling make you happy, then they can't just stand in your way of a dream!. Ask them to watch "The Passion of Christ!." That's acting, and it's a very Religious movie!. Maybe getting things like this would help them understand that modeling and acting is by far not a sin at all!
Just think of ways to relate and explain to them, and maybe you'll come to an agreement!.

Bottom line is you say no when you want to say no!. He may be right with the modeling, because its your job for them to show your body!. but for acting absolutely not! He just doesn't want his little girl to grow up!. Your going to live your own life, he will have to accept that sooner or later!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

You don't have to pose nasty for modeling!. Don't get involved with a modeling company like that!. Do a talent agency that is all ages so you usually don't get "bad" jobs!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
