A nilhistic movement of the late 1950's and 60's that pictures man as an absurd (illogical) creature in a logical universe!. It grew out of existentialism, the theatre of cruelty and other reactions to the devastation of WW II!. Personified by Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett, the movement was doomed to failure,because it tried to communicate that one of the problems with man is that he cannot communicate!. The plays of the movement range from very funny to thought-provoking, to shocking!. Happily it did not last long!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well a good example of theatre of the absurd can be found in Tom Stoppard's 'Rosencrantz and Guildernstern Are Dead'!. Basically it question the existence of humanity and individuals!. also the idea of destiny and whether we can control it!. Usually T!.O!.A!. comes to the conclusion that we live, stuff happens, then we die, there is no real meaning in life even though we desparately seek it!.
