It is sort-of agreed upon that the Trojan War is legendary but it is true that some battles were fought between Greeks from Greece (as we know it today) and those living in Asia Minor (today's Turkey, where the Trojans lived)!.

There was the Illiad before it and it tells part of the story of the Trojan War (and the "Trojan Women" come from it)!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

"Trojan Women" (Troades) is the final installment of Euripides "Trojan War trilogy!." The source material is passages in the Iliad, and more importantly, the Odyssey of Homer!.

The trilogy also was used by Euripides to comment on events in the Pelopenesian War which was ongoing as the plays were written!. In the same way that Arthur Miller's "The Crucible" was a commentary on the "Witch hunts" of the McCarthy Era, the "Trojan Women" is believed to be an allegory for a massacre and mass enslavement that Euripides fellow Athenians had committed in a on the captured island of Melos earlier that year, (415 BCE!.)Www@QuestionHome@Com
