Position:Home>Theater & Acting> Should I get with an agency, or build up my resume?

Question: Should I get with an agency, or build up my resume!?
At first, I was going to get with an agency, and then audition for plays, parts in movies, etc etc etc!.
But I read something on the internet that an actress had written (it was an actors advice website) and she said that I should build my resume and get parts in plays and things before I get with an agency!.
Then the other day I read something else that said that the very first step was getting an agent or an agency!.
Now, I'm not sure what I should do!.
Should I build my resume first, or get with an agency straight away!?

ps: I'm 14, and haven't had any parts in anything yet (I'm planning on auditioning for things soon!.)

Im fourteen and doing the EXACT thing as you, and also wondering the same thing as you!. But some advice that others have given me is that you should bulid your resume, and then get with an agency!. They say this because an agency is not just going to sign with you right away, you have to show thwm that you are worth their time!. If they like you, and they feel you can make them a profit, then, they sign with you!.

I wish the best for both of us!Www@QuestionHome@Com

You should do plays for school first and take some classes!.

You are 14 so they look for alot more skills in you when your younger usually because they cast parts to 18-20ish year olds because its easyer for them but they cast younger kids when they have talent and can be reliable so if you bring them a resume with plays and stuff its easyer to get the part Www@QuestionHome@Com

any but becareful some agencys r scams!. mine was a scam waste of £400Www@QuestionHome@Com

Read everything at

Have your parents read it also since you are too young to sign a contract!.
You have nothing to take to an agent at this point!. The agency is there to make money, as they should!. They will either invest in you or have you pay for training!. The later is the more likely!.
So for now
Audition as planned!. If you do not get a part, offer to paint sets, usher help others learn lines!. Just being around the stage you will learn a lot and make connections!.
Keep a record of everything that you do!.
Get some singing and dancing classes or lessons!. Take Drama in school!. Get into community theater!. Lots of work, but lots of fun!.
