Question: Decoding Shakespeare-Romeo and Juliet!?
I'm doing something for school and i have to perform a soliloquy by Juliet and i don't even get it and i think it would help me do a better job if i actually understood what i was saying so i was wondering if someone could tell me what she is saying in detail, as in exactly what it means

I'd really appreciate it!.!.!.

Here it is!.!.!.

Gallop apace, you fiery-footed steeds,
Towards Phoebus' lodging: such a wagoner
As Phaethon would whip you to the west,
And bring in cloudy night immediately!.
Spread thy close curtain, love-performing night,
That runaway's eyes may wink and Romeo
Leap to these arms, untalk'd of and unseen!.
Lovers can see to do their amorous rites
By their own beauties; or, if love be blind,
It best agrees with night!. Come, civil night,
Thou sober-suited matron, all in black,
And learn me how to lose a winning match,
Play'd for a pair of stainless maidenhoods:
Hood my unmann'd blood, bating in my cheeks,
With thy black mantle; till strange love, grown bold,
Think true love acted simple modesty!.
Come, night; come, Romeo; come, thou day in night;
For thou wilt lie upon the wings of night
Whiter than new snow on a raven's back!.
Come, gentle night, come, loving, black-brow'd night,
Give me my Romeo; and, when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars,
And he will make the face of heaven so fine
That all the world will be in love with night
And pay no worship to the garish sun!.
O, I have bought the mansion of a love,
But not possess'd it, and, though I am sold,
Not yet enjoy'd: so tedious is this day
As is the night before some festival
To an impatient child that hath new robes
And may not wear them!. O, here comes my nurse,
And she brings news; and every tongue that speaks
But Romeo's name speaks heavenly eloquence!.

it's pretty long, it's the first half that's really baffling me!.!.!.

thank you :)

Yikes, I bet nobody is going to break this down line by line for you, but maybe this will help!.!.!.!.I can't remember exactly, but I think Phoebus is the sun, & Phaeton is the charioteer who drives the chariot of the sun across the sky during the day!. So your first lines are very impatient, & maybe delivered cutely petulant--Juliet wants the damn sun to hurry across the sky & get out of night's way, so she can get it on with Romeo!. Emphasize "whip" because she'd like to whip the sun & make it leave faster!. From "Spread thy close curtain" to "it best agrees with night," Juliet should be kind of naughty & sensual--these lines are about how you can get away with stuff under the cover of darkness!. The next long sentence ("Come, civil night!.!.!.!.") should be delivered archly, tongue in cheek, starting out serious but slipping into naughty again; night as a "sober-suited matron" sounds like a kind of chaperone, but then Juliet is actually asking night to teach her about how to lose her virginity!. "Come night; come Romeo!.!.!.!." should be delivered with passion to the point of lunacy, ("take him & cut him out in little stars," for God's sake!) & the rest of the soliloquy, until she spots the nurse coming, should have the feeling of "Omigod, I am so horny I can't stand it!"Www@QuestionHome@Com

i got this out of a book "have no fear shakespeare - romeo and juliet"

I wish the sun would hurry up and set and night would come immediately!. when the night comes and everyone goes to sleep, Romeo will leap into my arms, and no one will know!. beauty makes it possible for lovers to see how to make love in the dark!. or else love is blind, and its best time is night!. i wish night would come, like a widow dressed in black, so i can learn how to submit to my husband and lose my virginity!. let the blood rushing to my cheeks be calmed!. in the darkness, let me, a shy virgin, learn the strange act of sex so that it seems innocent, modest and true!. come, night!. come, Romeo!. you're like a day that comes during night!. you're whiter than snow on the black wings of a raven!. come, gentle night!. come, loving dark night!. give me Romeo!. and when i die, turn him into stars and form a constellation in his image!. his face will make the heavens so beautiful that the world will fall in love with the night and forget about the garish sun!. oh, i have bought love's mansion, but i havn't moved in yet!. i belong to Romeo now, but he hasn't taken possession yet!. this day is so boring that i feel like a child on the night before a holiday, waiting to put on my fancy new clothes!. oh hear comes my nurse, and she brings news!. every voice that mentions Romeo's name sounds beautiful!. now, nurse, whats the news!? is that the rope ladder Romeo told you to pick up!?

phew thats a lot but its just what i got out of a book that translates the text into everyday language!. hope it helped and good luckWww@QuestionHome@Com
