I don't think it's selfish, unless your only reason is to get your name out to the public!. If your goal is to help promote the theatre and its productions, then I think it's ok!. To answer in short, it depends!. !. !.

Professional shows --- that is, shows done by professionals, the ones that tour or are performed at regional theatres and on Broadway --- often list the director!. High school, college, and community theatres may be different!.

I'm a high school drama teacher and director and the vice-president of the board of directors at the local community theatre, where I also direct at least one show each season!. I personally choose not to list my name on the posters and in the program for the high school productions because I want my students to get all of the credit!. At the community theatre, however, my name is listed on the posters and programs!. There is something to be said for name-recognition in the community and I've had actors audition (and not audition) and audience members attend (and not attend) a production because of my association with the show!. As you become more known in your community, and if your productions have been successful, your community theatre may choose to list your name on the posters in the future!. Regardless, your name should always be listed in the program with the rest of the production staff!. After all, credit should be given when due!.

So, on what does it depend!? It depends on your community theatre's by-laws and production guidelines!. The theatre may have decided not to list any directors by name, choosing to focus instead on the production and giving credit to the theatre as a whole!. If you have questions, ask your theatre's artistic director, producing director, or board member to clarify the policy or ask for a copy of the theatre's by-laws and production guidelines!.

The title and author of the play are usually featured in any promotional material!. (Often, publicizing the author's name is a condition you have to agree to in order to get permission to perform the play!.) The name of the director and the names of actors aren't normally included, unless there's reason to believe that those names have some drawing power that would help attract a larger audience!.

Your name should appear in the program that audience members receive at the show!. But they're not dissing you by leaving it off the flyers!.

As for getting your name out there, you can offer to help with publicity by giving interviews to local newspapers and radio stations!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

a poster like that is promotional so any pertinant facts about the play/show is allowed on the poster!. sometimes people leave that stuff off b/c it's cheaper!. it is not selfish!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

Yeah, it is too egotistic of you!. It is a small company!. Your name will be in the program and perhaps in the newspaper items about the play, that is plenty! Www@QuestionHome@Com

Sometimes, but generally only if they are famous/well known and worth bragging about :)Www@QuestionHome@Com
