You aren't going to like this answer, but it's the best way to get over it!.

Ready!? Speak in public, and sing in public EVERY CHANCE YOU GET!. In fact, you would do better if you MADE more opportunities to speak in public!. Volunteer to give the announcements every day!. Offer to introduce people at the PTA meetings!.

What you are feeling is an adrenaline reaction to stress!. You are worried about your performance because it is a special event!. So you are psyched up, and thinking "what people think of me", and your body is reacting to all that emotion and stress like someone is attacking you!.

The only way to get past that is to perform often enough that you get used to the idea that you are performing!. "Oh boy, here we go, this is a special event!. Oh no!" Instead, you think: "no big deal!.!.!. yeah, I did this yesterday! and the day before, and the day before!.!.!." you get the idea!.

I would suggest buying a karaoke game (perhaps Rock Band) and play and sing with a whole bunch of friends who you don't mind sounding awful in front of!.

As long as you are performing and nervous, you are going to have the physical reactions!. You've just got to do stuff aloud anyway, and your body will settle down as you get used to doing it!. In the meantime, sing things that HAVE voice cracks in them, or songs with heavy soundtracks behind the lyrics!.

If it makes you feel better, no one else can hear the voice cracks or notice the shakes as well as you can!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

There is what is called Stanislavski's 3 Circles of Concentration!. First, you limit your attention to what is immediately on stage with you!. It could be a table there, a lamp, a vase, a script in your hand, etc!. After focusing on that only for a little time, you will relax a little!. Then you can expand your attention to the whole stage itself and that which is on it, but only the stage (or performing) area!. You will soon relax a little more!. That's when you are ready to take in the whole auditorium or whatever space you are in !. !. !. including the audience!. This is when you are now totally relaxed (and still have your 'performance energy'), which you always should be when performing!. This always works for me!. A few deep breaths don't hurt either!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

I'd have to agree with Adriel!. All you can really do is practice!.

I was!.!.!. relatively shy when I was younger, but I did two singing for the stage classes [freshman & soph!. years] & Model U!.N!. [soph year] and got a lot better about that kind of thing!.

Deep breathing beforehand helps too!. Maybe you could learn a couple easy yoga exercises!? Www@QuestionHome@Com
