Question: How come in the musical Wicked all the elphabas have long faces!?
is it a role requirement!? are they any other requirements!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
Carmen Cusack and Teal Wicks most certainly do not have long faces!. Neither did Shoshana Bean or Eden Espinosa!.

There are no role requirements for Elphaba other than mezzo-soprano/belt!.

There have been over 35 women who have played Elphaba professionaly, even if just as an understudy!.

Willemijn Verkaik, Julia Murney, and Caissie Levy look the part the most, but looks are not an exact requirement for Elphaba!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

It's sort of the tradition!.
In the novel be Frank L!. Baum, and in the original 1939 movie, The Wizard of Oz, The Witch of the West (Elphaba) had a long face with a crooked nose!.

Of course the actresses that portray Elphaba are much prettier, but they have to look at least a little like she was in the originals!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

Elphie is supposed to have a pointy face!. Most pointy faces are long faces!. So in a way it is like a requirement!. That and to be a belter!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I think they were using a prop to make their faces look longWww@QuestionHome@Com
