Question: What Ever Happened To Broadway!? Am I Wrong!?
Look Broadway used to be a prestigious, classy place for theatre but then alot of cruddy musicals came on!. Here is what I am talking about!.!.!.
1!. The Little Mermaid,Mary Poppins,Shrek!. Look the Lion King is great, but COME ON!. Broadway is turning into a kiddie show
2!. Legally Blonde the Musical!. Whoever came up with this idea should be put in jail!. This was the poorest mistake of a musical I have ever seen!. MTV had a huge part in it's creation!. MTV should have nothing to do with Broadway!. They had a reality show to pick the actress to play the lead part!. A reality show
3!. Grease!. They had a reality show to pick the leads!. Once again, A REALITY SHOW!
4!. In The Heights!. I am so sick of Rent- wannabees!. All the good musicals are being kicked off and are being replaced by a crappy spin offs
5!. 13 The Musical!. This is just stupid!. These kids are prancing around singing about being yourself and how adults don't understand!. It is so fake and unrealistic!. And all the actors are kids!. They are 13!. When I want to go to a Broadway show I want to see full grown experienced adults!. Real actors!. Not cheap gimmicks!.

I once read an article on the decline of Broadway!. Can't remember when or where, but it had some good thoughts on that issue!.
It's main point was the decline of the good musical writers ( both book and music )!. It pointed to the days of Lerner and Lowe!. Rogers, Hart and Hammerstein, Adolph Green and Betty Comden etc!.
No longer are they producing plays (especially musicals ) for Broadway!.
Everything on the Great White Way is taken from hit movies or based on someone Else's music!. e!.g!. Mamma Mia, Taboo, Ring of Fire and many more!. The only one I've seen recently that compares to the heyday of B'way was 'The Drowsy Chaperon" and many revivals!.
The biggest attraction now is the special effects and the elaborate sets!.
Maybe, someday soon, or HOPEFULLY someday soon, someone will notice!.
I agree with you, let's stop copying the hits and come up with something original and something we can all say "that's Broadway"Www@QuestionHome@Com

broadway has changed so much over the past century, if you look back at the good ol days with the first musical ever "The Black Crook" it was all about dancing and clever acting, sometimes i watch movies like showboat and Singing in the Rain to just remind me that broadways wasn't always a hell hole!. Plus everything was original which is hard to find nowadays, All of the musicals are just Movies or books made into musicals nowadays which is just pissing me off, why can't people be original!Www@QuestionHome@Com
