Question: How can I convince my parents to move out to LA for acting!?
I have been acting since I was 6, and it is my passion!. I am 14, and a freshman in high school!. I am a tv/film actor, but have done theater in the past!. I am in theater in high school now, anyways!.!.!. I have two agents in ATL and Nashville!. I was with Arlene Wilson for a year, and then they merged with Ford and then they went out of business!. I got auditions and callbacks but never a job!. I wasn't comfortable with the auditions!. I even had an audition on the day they went out of business!. I just signed with another ATL agent and I like them!. I have been with my Nashville agent for 2 years, but never got an audition because they only call you if the job is a lot of money!. My ATL agent said that if I ever wanted to go to NY or LA they have connections and I can go!.!.!. I also went to a talent convention 2 years ago called AMTC, and was offered to go to NY and LA but didn't go!. I almost went again, but it didn't work out!. I was just calling & emailing some people who wanted me then, and one of them said they would sign me if I came to LA in January for 3-4 months!. My dad works from home and can take me!. I just am worried that my credits will get messed up, and that something bad will happen!. I am even in an AP, and that can mess up myself from getting a college credit!. My dad doesn't want to go!. He thinks it is way too expensive, and we would need to have to get an apartment, and he doesn't want to leave my mom and two brothers away for a couple months, which I can understand!. My mother feels the same way!. I just don't want to wait another 4 years!. I actually want to go to NYU for college!. How can I convince my parents to let me go!? I am very mature, and can change easily!. What can I say!? This is my dream, and can't see ATL giving myself that many oppurtunites!. What is your feedback!. Thanks!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Being that you're only 14 years old you will simply have to bid your time!. No matter how mature you think you are, it is not mature enough evidenced by your argument here!. There are many other factors involved in moving to LA and your father is correct in that it is very expensive, the economy is in the toilet AND California is almost broke having just asked the U!.S!. government for a 7 Billion dollar bail out!. On top of that the SAG/Producer talks have been at a stalemate for a long while now and it looks as if SAG leadership will ask members to vote for strike powers!. All of this uncertainty has meant less work for members and a general slow down!. When things get slow, agents do not take on new clients as they are barely able to get their current clients work!.

So now here you come!. You've not been able to book any jobs in the two small markets you are represented in but expect to be able to do something in a large market like LA!? By what reasoning!? If you can't hit a pitch in Little League baseball how will you hit a pitch in full on Pro Ball!. That is where you'll find yourself in LA, against kids your age that are UNBELIEVABLY well prepared and professional!. Is it fair!? Not really!. It's luck of the draw, some of them fortunate enough to already live in Southern California, others whose parents own companies that allow them to make the financial commitments required to see this business through for their children!.

So for now, do what you can!. Work hard in school, stay involved in theater at your school!. Apply to NYU or USC when you're a senior and should you get into one of those schools you will be able to further your aspirations in the business!.

ATL has more opportunities than you probably realize!. As various states around the country offer better tax rebates, TV and film productions have been moving out of state!. While they mostly hire their lead talent out of LA or NY they don't hire ALL of their talent from there as it means flying them out and putting them up, all of which is expensive under SAG or AFTRA union rules!.

Lastly, you don't mention whether you are in the unions or not!. If not then moving to LA would certainly be very premature!.
Hope this helps!.Www@QuestionHome@Com

you cant force your parents to move because its their house!. but maybe you could go out to LA for like a few weeks and then go from there!. if its a big thing like you get a part in a TV show they might have second thoughts about NOT moving!.!.!. yuh know!?Www@QuestionHome@Com
