Best Answer - Chosen by Asker:
A tough choice but I think I would say Othello!.

But not because of the titular character, although the drama of a man destroyed by his own dark emotions and inability to control and react to them is handled brilliantly, but because of the play's driving force - the character of Iago!.

This is the first exploration of a sociopath in literature and as a villain is not only incredibly sinister but genuinely, frighteningly real!. I had the great pleasure in seeing a production at the Birmingham Rep starring Ray Fearon and Richard McCabe!. McCabe's Iago made the audience thoroughly complicit in his actions, both hypnotizing and terrifying them in equal measure!. Www@QuestionHome@Com

I would say The Merchant of Venice!. In class, it meant nothing, but our English teacher managed to get us to a live performance and everything came together and I found it very interesting and helpful in understanding Shakespeare's way of thinking!. He truly was a genius!. It's very difficult to understand just by reading, it's better to have the story in play form!.!. Schools should be made to let the students see the play as it was meant to be, instead of drumming the story into young minds, only using the text!.!.!.Www@QuestionHome@Com
