Question: What is the role of a director in a play!?
My Honors English class is doing a group project, which involves "blocking a scene" from Twelfth Night!. Everyone else in my group already called being actors, so I ended up with the role of director!.
1) What does "blocking a scene" mean!?
2) What exactly does a director do in a play!? Do I get on stage!? Do I stand offstage and read the stage directions!? Do I go on the stage during the presentation and tell people where to go!? Do I just arrange everything before the presentation and just watch the presentation!?Www@QuestionHome@Com

When you block a scene, it means that you are going through the motions and your lines for the play!. Basically, you need to move as your character would, and have the directions down for where and how you physically move!.
A director does many things, but your job overall is to help bring the performance together, making sure people know their lines, and putting the act together as a whole!. You need to take charge, but also allow room for creative ideas and suggestions from the other members in your group!. You probably won't be on the stage, unless you're helping to set up the scene!.

Blocking a Scene - A director plans out where the actors should be standing (or waiting) at the beginning of the scene, how and where they will move to when the scene starts!.!.!. The Actors would usually bring in their own 'homework' on how their character would move, say, and interact!. Directors would make necessary adjustments to the actors!. It's drawing a blueprint of a building before you actually build it!. Create the structure first, before you fill in all the goodies!.
A director does not get on the Stage during the performance!.
Depends on the budget of the production, an Assistant Direcor (or just any Assistant) read off Stage Directions!.
