I don't know about getting it for free, but video rental stores have it!.

Les Miserables is my all-time favorite musical!. I am a theatre teacher, and I show the 1998 movie version in class - I spend three weeks on it teaching play, theme, and character analysis (the play analysis test itself is a two day, five page essay test)!.
