Question: I am the understudy, should I tell!?
My school is doing the Aladdin Pantomime and I got the understudy of So-Shi, Jasmine's maid!. Now I just found out the girl who is playing So-Shi, who is also the understudy for Jasmine, is going away for the first two weeks of rehearsals when we only have 8 weeks of them!. This means she is missing 7-9 rehearsals!. Just before we auditioned, out teacher told us to tell her if we were going away at all so we could make arrangements, but the girl didn't say anything!. also, the scripts haven't arrived yet and I think we will get them just after half term, which is when she is away!. So basically, she is missing a quarter of rehearsals, a fact which she has not told the the music teacher, and she will not have the scripts to learn while she is away, one of which is the main part!. She is in bottom set English and has trouble reading, so she would have needed the full 8 weeks to memorise them!.
She also did something like this last year, when we did High School Musical - she had two minor singing parts, she missed a rehearsal because she was "good enough already" and it got given to someone else, so she went in a strop and refused to come to another rehearsal so she lost that part too!.
P!.S she is also a total ***** who was very sneaky at auditions, putting people down and making comments etc
Nobody really likes her and they all want me to have her part!.

So: what are my chances of getting her part!? do i tell the teacher or keep out of it!? or do I not say anything and then when it all comes out she'll be in even more trouble!? Help!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Theater is Politics - Politics is Theater!. Coming right out and speaking up is much too obvious! You could probably learn from 'her,' play it cool, know what you know, play out your cards when 'YOU' decide to play out the cards!. In other words control the deck!. A truly dedicated actor/actress (I love the old word - - - sorry) a good Thespian knows everyones part and can step into everyone's part!. Just imagine this, you say nothing, you merely work hard and make yor teacher aware you are working hard - - - the girl playing So-Shi doesn't show ON THE SAME DAY that the girl playing Jasmine has a family emergency!. Guess who gets to show how they can do with the part of Jasmine! Yep, you! To make it big in the theater by sly as a fox and as quick to strike as a snake yet don't break fragile glass, smile and charm everyone into 'just knowing' that it is always someone elses fault!. That said don'y go pointing figures at others, let others figure thinks out - -0 - be the puppet master not the puppet!

PS Coldly, if it is her fault it is her fault not yours!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Don,t tell the teacher;could make things worst for you!. So let the mistake happen and the teachers , I am sure , will give you the part!. wish I was there to see you performanceWww@QuestionHome@Com
