Hey, congrats!.

Well, most actors will tell you that that is actually the easiest part!. When I auditioned for a performing arts high school, I was told about my audition three days before it was to happen and I didn't even have monologues picked out!. Then I suddenly had three days to memorize two 1 1/2 minute monologues, which I did!.

Memorization comes from repetition!. Read it over and over, identify with it's words and meaning, place yourself in the time and place, imagine what it would be like to live in a place where there are places you are not permitted to go and areas you are not permitted to leave or to enter because you're black!. Imagine that you face imprisonment or death if you do!. Read one sentence!. Memorize the first sentence!. Add the next!. Do this out loud where you will not be disturbed!. Eventually, you will find that they become more and more your words and less and less the writer's!. If I can help further, or with any specific problems, let me know!. one of my classmates chose a monologue from that play for her monologue assignment!.

the best way is to say the lines aloud over and over and over!. if you get sick of hearing them, that's a good thing!.

get someone to prompt you- have them say the other character's lines, and memorize that way!.
