Best Answer - Chosen by Asker: I would suggest a broader emphasis than acting school!. I got my masters at Southern Methodist University and by that time I had acted in perhaps a dozen high school, community, and college theater productions, had done tech work of a serious kind on half a dozen, written a couple of short plays that got published, directed a production of one of them in a community theater under the guidance of the operation's director!. When I took acting and encountered those serious about a career in acting under the teaching of people with years in professional theater, I learned why the method I used in acting worked and I learned that my personality and attitudes were unsuitable for that kind of career!. None of my previous work had fit the context of career work!. My masters involved Playwriting and Directing!. One of my classmates was Beth Henley, who was beyond all of the rest of us in writing creativity on her first day in class!. ("Crimes of the Heart" Pulitzer Prize) There are many schools besides SMU that offer undergrad and grad work in theater (or theatre) and offer various mixes of the various skills of theater!. Acting is very intense and training gets you focused on that one role, while directing and writing work best if you can see the whole of the play and the various roles and even switch quickly between them!. Www@QuestionHome@Com Hi there, In my opinion acting school is not necessary if you are still in high school studying for your exams!.I think it is necessary to have some fun during the week by attending a theatre arts school!. This will help you relax and keep your mind off from studying during the week!. But it will help you if you then decide to continue studying theatre arts!.
