Question: Need Help a song for an upcoming audition!?
I have been asking a lot of questions about my upcoming audition and I have another one!. I am going to be auditioning for the musical Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory!. I have decided to do the song "Alone in the Universe" from Seussical the Musical!. I sang the part of Jojo for a small production that did songs from Broadway!. (My first stage performance where I was singing!.) I am going to be singing the second half where Jojo starts to sing for the first time in the song!. My teacher showed me where to start, but she really didn't give great directions on what to do after that part in the song where Jojo sings!. I am a girl singing this part and because I have such great range (I mostly sing Soprano and second soprano but this is my first singing audition and I have only been singing for awhile) I can play this boy part, but I need to know have any other GIRLS (Guys can answer too but I really need to know if any girls have done this) used this song for an audition and started in the middle of the song at that part!? And if so did you have to sing the Horton part along with Jojo's!? OR did you just do Jojo's part!? I know Jojo's part the best so I am hoping I just have to do that part!. The place where I am auditioning is very unspecific about how long the song should be it just says have a song prepared in your key!. I can't go back to my teacher and ask her because of some unpleasant things that happened during the performance!. So please someone help me I am really nervous!. I really want to get into this audition, and I don't want to look like a fool because this is my first time auditioning outside of my school!. Please help!Www@QuestionHome@Com

Well, I'm a girl, but I've never sang this song for an audition!. But in the production I saw of Seussical, they had JoJo played by a girl, and for the production I wanted to audition for for Seussical, they also wanted JoJo to be played by a girl!. So I think it would be perfectly fine to sing JoJo's part for your audition! It would probably be easier for you just to sing JoJo's part and not worry about Horton's because it's usually VERY difficult to teach yourself a new part on your own in just a short time!. It's always ok to start or end in the middle of a song or even to cut and paste!. I would suggest stopping when JoJo and Horton sing "Please believe in me" together before they begin the clover dialog!. Usually, if there is no specific length they want your song to be (e!.g!. 16 bars, 32 bars) then you can either do the whole song or whatever part best shows of your range!

So my first suggestion for you would be to choose something that shows off your range a little more than 'alone in the universe'!. I would recommend 'losing my mind' from the show follies (starting at about 3:15 into it) or 'hernando's hideaway' from the pajama game!. (im sure you can look both of these up on myspace)!. And usually in an audition you sing 16 bars or about 1 min of a song!. If you are going to use 'alone in the universe' for sure have the accompanist play only jojo's part!. and its okay to start a song in an audition where ever you'd like!. Drink some hot water with honey and lemon before you audition, it will soothe your voice and your nerves!. i hope that helps at lest a little!. break a leg!Www@QuestionHome@Com
